Blog Episode 8
Bus Stations, Train Crossings and Plane Hubs
Travel. During the pandemic, only a small percentage really got to travel whether it was for pleasure or work. As the world is opening back up, many places are already booked between now and deep into 2022. In the movie It’s a Wonderful Life, the scene of Jimmy Stewart’s character George Bailey spends a good chunk of the time on screen wanting to get out of town and travel the world. His former boss even buys him luggage as he is starting out.
2020 was a good example of many people feeling like George. Travel was either just not safe or in a lot of cases was even prohibited in crossing state lines or country lines or continent lines.
Now the world is opening back up. The idea of bus stations, train crossings and plane hubs appeal to people. Doesn’t matter the mode of transportation as long as it gets you out of Dodge.
But say that travel wasn’t accessible yet. Finding a way to still live your wonderful life while tapping into the feeling you get when you visit another place and take a break from your daily routine becomes a challenge. Entire industries of staycations and spa days in your home town popped up to appeal to such a situation.
Do you wonder without even doing the staycation, how you can create that type of appeal for yourself to find respite and tranquility in your daily life. Many do meditation or go for a walk. Self care has become a great asset in recent decades. It isn’t just a fad or a phase. What we call it might change but finding play and joy and rest and clearing your head will always be. Play is vital to our happiness and recharge. It allows the creativity to survive the daily hassle. It gives us hope for what is possible.
And yes, even to travel to far away lands and immerse into other cultures. Now we have a benefit that our ancestors before us didn’t have pre encyclopedia and Google/Bing. We are so global that just a little research, a little effort to reach out, our pen pals days have increased to ten fold if we wanted.
Some people might worry about traveling again beyond going in their cars. Some are just raring to go. Both are okay. It is all a choice. Finding adventure looks different for everyone. What is important is that you try. Coming out of our secluded bubble and even coming out of our social circles is the only way to experience what awaits.
This can be in the form of joining a community group that is new to you or taking a course, going dancing but a style you aren’t use to, heck even running for office. There are groups that will help you learn how to do that.
Being social in person is going to take adjustment. You think that it is like riding a bike and things will be the way it was. However, you have probably changed and so have the people you were around before the shutdown. Some will fit you like a glove and others, it might be time to wish them well and add to the Christmas card list.
It is okay if you aren’t ready to come out of the bubble. But it is good to know what your reasons are and to start planning a timeline of when you want to join the world again. Otherwise, we become shut off. It seems comfortable and you do in fact get your way since no one other than the people in your household whom have challenged all along. King of the castle and all.
Serving your purpose and calling comes to mind when you need to stretch yourself. Putting yourself out there is not an easy task. But when you do, the rewards are great. You make an impact, you make your mark, you leave your legacy. After a time when so many people lost their battle to Covid, we, collectively certain raised our awareness of how precious life is and how short our time is.
Sometimes, we just need help getting started again. Sometimes we just need help shifting our mindset and tapping into our true desires. Sometimes we need help letting go so that we can travel on busses, trains and planes without restriction. You have the answers within you and coaching helps ask the questions to bring that out.
