Blog Episode 19
I Don’t Influence Your Choices – YOU DO
You are walking in the forest and you come to a crossroads. There are different paths that lay ahead. You have to make a choice. You can go left, right, go back the way you came or just stay put. All these choices are yours. Now I and everyone else can give you our opinion on what to do but the truth is, it is up to you to go fact finding, to ask questions, to listen to others, to evaluate the situation, to reflect on past experience, to summarize your options.
When I say I don’t influence your choices, you do, I am saying that the final choice is yours. You may like what I have to say or you may not. But you in the end still get to make a choice that is in your best interest. Maybe the others have walked that path before. Maybe someone knows how to track as they hike or they know how to navigate the stars. But when everyone is in a new position at the same time is use, how do you make your choice?
Is it random, is it luck, is it true evaluation?
Peer pressure, adult authority, the way the systems of the world are set up, societal customs, and a plethora of other factors play into our choices of course. Over time, we believe we are making independent thought choices but if we look at it closer, we will see that we may have relinquished that to others. We feel bitter or have dirty pain or sadness and don’t even know why.
The people we look up to and think have walked the paths before surely have a clear idea of what is going on and even more so, a clear idea of how to handle it. Now to an extent, this has some validity. If others have experienced it, then they know about things that we as newbies do not. And for those that are practiced in repeat experiences, they have even more to offer. But each circumstance and variable factor are different. The time of your experience may have things that didn’t exist and that means one thing. You taking the time to evaluate.
Even if it is split seconds, these choices are still yours. The judgment of the situation is still yours. I can share my experiences but I also have different skill sets, values and temperament. No one person can ever duplicate another inside of a choice.
We can blame all we want but if you ponder these things, you will learn to accept your development, actions and choices. Ownership of your identity and where it goes is freedom of the truest nature.
Living a life with no regrets because we learn from the hard things and grow. Our focus has more clarity and purpose. Over time with practice and intention, we grow into having a laser mission in our lives and what to do for ourselves and others. We learn to forgive, we learn to fine tune our skill sets, we seek out the things that truly matter to us.
