Mild, Medium and Extra Spicy – How Do You Want to Remember Life?

I truly believe timing is everything. I have been catching up on past blogs all weekend and am now ready to write this one. It was next in the cue as they say or on deck if we are talking baseball.

Just a couple hours ago a high school classmate of mine passed away. Since making the announcement, everyone has been sending condolences and telling their stories and sharing love. Our friend in terms of this blog, I will categorize as extra spicy in how he lived his life. He was larger than life for a lot of us. He played football and basketball for our school, he was friends from every class, he enjoyed life and he was always willing to go to bat for you if you needed him. He just loved to have fun. He knew how to be responsible and all that but he truly just enjoyed the people around and what he had to do.

I think we all want to be remembered and for those of us that remain, how do you want to remember the life you have lived?

How do you want others to remember you? Mild means we can play it safe. Medium means we periodically take chances and at least go out of our comfort zone from time to time and extra spicy really embraces each opportunity, looks to others to connect and appreciates each moment as it comes.

When I originally came up with the title of this entry, I had no idea that my friend was going to pass today. But it is certainly a reminder of how precious each moment we are given, to push ourselves out of the comfort zone and really create more play, more fun, more connection and give purpose to building others up, not tearing them down.

Now I couldn’t say for certain how many, but I have a number of friends that love hot sauce. I remember going to New Orleans, LA and walking into a market just off Jefferson Square that had an entire wall of various hot sauce. Who knew that there were so many varieties of hot sauce. Each one was different. It was amazing. Now personally, I am not a hot sauce person when it comes to food but I am certainly trying to be in life. I am trying to take more risks, explore more options and opportunities, try new things, meet new people, go to more places, as well as create new understanding about just everything.

I feel over the course of time, my life has gone from mild to medium. With the development of starting my own coaching business, taking training, learning things that haven’t been a part of my skill set, I am working on it. I am embracing it and understand the need to practice every day for the greater good in reaching goals and lending myself to help others.

When I leave this world (and hopefully that is not for another 48 years) I hope that people will have an extra spicy vision of me.

It is okay if you want to be mild or medium. It really is. Just take ownership and pride in the one you choose.

RIP Dino. This one is dedicated to you. And next time I see hot sauce at Indi’s, I will try to live life a little more extra spicy to follow your example of a life filled with joy, laughter and heart.
