Are You Proactive at Home Plate? What’s on Your Plate?

Being proactive at home plate. What does that mean to you? When you are at bat or when you are sliding in? Are you the catcher? Are you the umpire? Are you the groundskeeper prior and post game?

So let me ask you again. Being proactive at home plate. What does it mean to you?

Each job/position has their own set of skills at home plate. There are certain requirements and rules but not always the same for each position at the same time.

When we are in business with one another, fairness and mutual respect, knowing and understanding the boundaries is a big thing. But all too often, it is overlooked. So even though we are all in the same proximity the way we conduct ourselves, our end goal may still differ.

Have you noticed some things in life we are exceptionally good at being pro active. Other times we are reactive and then other situations we are so neutral it is almost as if we just chose to change games completely not even caring about any role in the former.

When we consciously are aware of roles that we play, we usually make more of an attempt to be proactive because others are counting us either directly or indirectly. We come to the plate in our role and want to do a good job because our team aka family or community or friends are depending on us to come thru on our agreement or commitment.

But when our plate becomes so full, even with good intentions, it becomes more challenging to do what is necessary. Going back to the basics is how Michael Jordan did it. Marie Kondo’s advice of purging and keeping things that only bring you joy. Martha Stewart’s It’s a Good Thing to bring the combination of simplicity and elegance to light. We have so many self – guru’s of how to do self care and examine our plate when overloaded.

Learning how to prioritize is an every day thing. Figuring out your values and how to keep them is a moment to moment thing. It can get confusing and definitely overwhelming. In coaching, we can take each thing on your plate and develop a plan in how to overcome obstacles. We can establish what things you want to keep on your plate and what you want to change. Naming a goal, then learning the turtle steps to reach it, to have awareness of what stops you from moving forward or changing your limited beliefs is how we start to uplevel our home run at bat statistics.
