May 1, 2021 Welcome to Lighthouse 11

This is the first official blog for Ellen Beckemeyer Life Coaching and Lighthouse 11.

To give you a little background about me, I have lived in Louisville, KY since I was five years old going into first grade. What makes today special is that it is also the 147th Kentucky Derby.  What a great day to remember the Lighthouse 11 Blog Launch.  I am a Louisville girl to my core.   I am known as the hat lady as you will soon discover if you didn’t know already.  My day is always filled with good things when I have a hat on my head.   Growing up with the Derby – I have made it my tradition year round to wear them often.  I just love how they make me feel and I can always find one to fit my mood.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing and Sales Management (Magna Cum Laude) and another Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology.

Louisville has been thru a lot in 2020 between the pandemic, protests regarding the Breonna Taylor case and the economic changes our community has lived thru.

But yesterday, we had the KY Oaks.  It was not a day without its issues.  Limited capacity, the valets striking (but they did agree to work in support of our city this weekend).  I mean that is huge love for the industry and city if you ask me.  They sure deserve recognition for this sacrifice that otherwise might have gone toward their cause.   Thru the day, it was mentioned a lot about the capacity.  But silver linings I think came out of everyone’s mouths about how they could spread out, shorter lines, and it was just a glorious, gorgeous weather day of temps in the 70s and sunny with blue skies and the occasional white puffy cloud.  I love Derby coverage like crazy.  It use to be on all four local channels at once and as a kid I would be switching channels like crazy to see what they all had on or to catch a story of the celebrity or learn all the Derby trivia.  Thankfully, now I can watch just one channel all day long to see the coverage.  The thing about yesterday watching Oaks coverage and today with Derby is that it is the first time in over a year that I witnessed all the Derby traditions, felt happiness, celebration and community.  It just filled all of me with a sense of joy and that I was centered again.  It was familiar with tradition the entire day. It touches the senses with the smell of food, the taste of Oaks Lily and Derby Mint Julep and other beverages, sounds of the crowd and the thunder of horse hooves and the singing of My Old KY Home, the sights of fashion, hats, and the infield, stands and Millionaire’s Row and touch all the money coming and going from your pocket.

In my former life before becoming a life coach, I worked for the Belle of Louisville Steamboat which produced my great love for the tourism industry in Louisville.  Like I said, I love Louisville to my core and this is a big reason why. Working for the Belle exposed me and gave me so many interactions to every sector under the sun from the Mayor’s office, County Judge’s office, the Governor’s office, the Corp of Engineers, the United States Coast Guard and that was just the operations portion. I handled sales and marketing for social groups that wanted to charter the Belle, churches and school groups that wanted to charter or come on public cruises.

Becoming a life coach felt like a new choice during the pandemic but it was actually on a list I made when deciding on career choices over 15 years ago.  Growing up, I was a pretty quiet and semi shy kid.  Getting over the awkward portion of childhood and adolescence will do that to a person sometimes.  When I found Facebook in 2008, I finally found a platform to share my voice.  At first I just had a lot to say and get out of me.  Then I found there were people actually following me and liked what I had to say.  That was the first time I had people outside of my family that gave me that much support for something I did all on my own and actually enjoyed.

Being heard is such a game changer.   I went to the same high school as Muhammad Ail who is also known as the Louisville Lip.  That’s when I decided to take on the name the Louisville Listener.

I think I have always been described as a listener by my peers and have been inquisitive of sociology and personal development.  When I was in elementary school I fell in love with journalism and learning and telling people’s stories.  The commonalities among people and the differences were always a curious thing to me.  As the Louisville Listener, I want to be able to create a space so we may have more representation of everyone in the world. Your story is worthy of being heard.  Many people have issues and obstacles not knowing they are actually very close to their goals and just need some support.   Sometimes the perception one has is just something in the story we tell ourselves and that blocks us from moving forward.  I am here to support you.

Thru coaching, I use tools that bring new awareness and we walk thru to your goals with a plan we develop together.  Coaching is not therapy.  That doesn’t mean we can’t talk about subjects that may weigh heavy in the world but some topics need to have a medical professional evaluate the situation.

Therapy is intended to help people recover from emotional or other psychological disorders such as depression or anxiety. Coaching, on the other hand, is intended to help individuals achieve personal goals when you are feeling normal and healthy.

Our sessions will be on Zoom or over the phone.

The website will be launched soon.  Still putting the final touches on it and getting the kinks worked out.  Very excited about sharing more with you.

Also, the Lighthouse 11 Podcast will be launching soon as well.  I have a lot of ideas for this and can’t wait to get to work on it.

Thru coaching, I believe the work we do in personal development and discovery allows you to create the plan and achieve your goals which makes the Lighthouse Window shine brighter with your special light and navigate to a beautiful destination of your dreams fulfilled.
