Action In Adversity _ PART ONE.
Tune in July 5, 2021 for PART TWO

The definition of adversity refers to difficulties, hardships, challenges or misfortune.

Google Phone aired a commercial where a deaf man at 55 years old was able to talk to his teen son on the phone for the very first time because they added closed captioning to their phone. Such an amazing example of action in adversity.

Just another reminder for those of us not going things to pay attention to all the small details in life are actually a big deal for those going thru it.

Imagine, there are children who both parents are deaf but they are hearing. We take it for granted as a child to be able to call home. Parents aren’t home where the machines that may have closed captioning are. How does that child get a hold of them when they are out? I am sure that many families who have a deaf person in the home have a game plan. What action plan do they come up with for in case of emergency situations?

How do we show courage in the face of adversity? For us to face adversity by taking control of our attitude

Some of the ways we can face adversity is by taking control of our attitude

1. Believe you can handle and overcome any challenge
2. Dare to think positive
3. Surround yourself with “warriors” and not “worriers.”
4. Let Adversity be your teacher

So I waited a few days to finish this blog. I am currently watching the National Memorial Day concert on PBS. They are talking about the Vietnam War Nurses.

These women knew adversity to the nth degree. The horror they saw in Vietnam and the void our country created when they didn’t separate our soldiers from the war itself. In the definition of adversity is the word heartbreak. The exposure to constant streams of men being brought to these nurses instantly reminded me of the medical staff and the pandemic. I am sure these nurses from both generations could empathize with the other while the circumstances were vastly different. Both were exposed to life threatening dangers around them.

The men and women who fought for our country during war time or treated them as the medical staff at war, during a pandemic or on 9/11 as a first responder truly shows action during adversity. The courage to face absolute terror, work against our instincts of flight when we fear and in simpler times to overcome challenges that face us.

Action is a choice. Action in adversity is bravery and courage. To think positive when things aren’t quite as overwhelming as war or a pandemic is obtainable.

Coaching is a way to sit in a safe space to see the problems in slow mo like an action movie and build courage so you may take action. It is in the name after all. ACTION movie.
